Duke, Don't Retire, Man! We Need You!

LA Times:

Meanwhile, Republicans are maneuvering to run for the seat from northern San Diego County if Cunningham opts to retire. Ron Nehring, chairman of the county GOP committee, has asked Cunningham to clarify the house sale and yacht situation.

If Duke retires, then Francine Busby will have a harder time cracking the religious right wingnuts in the "Duke Stir's" district. Hang in there, Duke!! Without your antics to make fun of, what will we do?

Dunc can't keep his mouth shut:

Rep. Duncan Hunter (news, bio, voting record) (R-El Cajon) ) said that "people should remember that Duke Cunningham has honorably served this country, sometimes in great danger, for 35 years."

Yeah, Dunc, like that has anything to do with how honest and ethical he is as a politician! Go have some Noodles Jefferson with the rest of the detainees at Guantanamo, you dumbass!

Is There a Right Wing Meltdown?

Check out Moment of Triumph... Grand Moff Texan says yes.

Sirota Weighs in on Rove and the Chickenhawks

Dragging Vampire Rove Into the Sunlight

Looks like Rove's recent remarks about how "libruls hate 'merica, hate our troops, and luv the terrists" are getting him some long overdue exposure in the so-called liberal media.

Karl Rove (via kos):
Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war. Conservatives saw what happened to us on 9/11 and said we will defeat our enemies. Liberals saw what happened to us and said we must understand our enemies.
I love how the Dems are jumping on this demanding an apology. Keep dragging that demon spawn Rove into the light till he burns! Read kos for more...

And Frist is Worried About Liberal Activist Judges?

When the court says the government can seize your property for profit, then I would say that is judicial activism in favor of big business.
A divided Supreme Court ruled Thursday that local governments may seize people's homes and businesses against their will for private development in a decision anxiously awaited in communities where economic growth often is at war with individual property rights.

This is the Definitive Answer on Iraq

Says Steve Gilliard:

We need to be honest here: Iraq is not worth one more dead American.

People on the right and left want some deus ex machina to save Iraq, but we have., collectively, come to a simple conclusion:

Iraq is not worth dying for. Not for the warmongers on the right or the liberal hawks on the left.

It's bad the soldiers are trapped there, but we have made it their problem, No one is willingly going to join them, and 5,000 have deserted so far.

When you ask liberal hawks to enlist, they are offended by the question.

When you ask conservatives to enlist, they are offended by the question.

And America's parents are NOT sending their kids to die in Iraq if they can, at all, help it. No one blows up IED's at Wal Mart.

We have a volunteer army with fewer and fewer volunteers, and people reenlisting only to save their friends. There is a time limit to their ability to be in combat. They cannot serve forever. They will have to be replaced. And fewer and fewer are willing to replace them,

What I want people to do is be honest.

If you will not serve in Iraq, and no one you know will serve, stop expecting someone else to do what you will not.

Therefore, it is time to stop calling for more troops, or the US to make Iraq safe. We cannot do this and even Americans are refusing to join the fight. It is time to look at your actions and realize, that despite your ideals, you oppose continuing this war. In practical terms, you have decided that this war is not worth your life or anyone you know. And million of Americans have joined you in this decision.

So, with this fact evident, it is time to call for US troops to withdraw from Iraq. Not save it, not add more boots on the ground. You have already voted by your actions. It is time that you match it with your words.

And so say all of us...

Does anyone know anyone who's enlisted specifically to join the war effort in Iraq? I don't.

Duke Cunningscam is Real Dumb!

AP:
"Ask the men and women who stood on top of the (World) Trade Center," said Rep. Randy (Duke) Cunningham, R-Calif. "Ask them and they will tell you: pass this amendment."
When in doubt, you can justify any right-wing agenda by invoking the attacks of 9/11, right? Maybe he's trying to invoke 9/11 to make himself look better too? But that would be pretty dumb. TBogg is right.

Durbin Has to Apologize For Making Comparisons to Nazi Germany?

From the Washington Post:

Durbin apologized for this?
Durbin said: "If I read this to you and did not tell you it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others -- that had no concern for human beings."
Who twisted his arm? Posterboy, of course!
Republican Sens. Mitch McConnell and John Warner condemned Durbin on the floor two days later. They were followed by about two dozen Republican senators (in news releases), Majority Leader Bill Frist (who called on Durbin to apologize on the Senate floor), Vice President Cheney, White House press secretary Scott McClellan and a host of veterans groups and conservative commentators.
Santorum needs to apologize, not Durbin!
Santorum was responding to the Senate Democrats' charge that Republicans were breaking the rules by opposing filibusters: "The audacity of some members to stand up and say, 'How dare you break this rule?' -- it's the equivalent of Adolf Hitler in 1942 saying, 'I'm in Paris. How dare you invade me? How dare you bomb my city? It's mine.' "

The Bush Doctrine Is Not Succeeding In Iraq

Bush: Come, Fristy, Come! Roll Over Boy! Good Boy!

Kos has an update on Frist flip-flopping over Bolton after Bush jerked his leash. That's why we named the blog after him!

"Who is your daddy and what does he do?"

Ahnold's getting unpopular! Now it's his turn to "STOP WHINING" about the special interest groups of nurses and teachers!

Cheney to Dean: Yo Mama!

Cheney on Dean:
I've never been able to understand his appeal. Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does. He's never won anything, as best I can tell.
Is that all he could come up with? Is there a disturbance in the dark side of the Force, Darth Cheney?

Dean on Cheney:
But we gotta be there and fight in order to do it. And believe me, we are going to fight back. I don't care if Dick Cheney likes my mother or not. We are going to fight back. I think it's great that Dick Cheney went after me, to be honest. At least they notice there's a Democratic Party that's not going to put up with this stuff any more. So there's a lot we're gonna do.
He's the man! This may be the first time Howard Dean got a full quote in the press! Check it.

Frist: Senate Democrats Are Hurting America!

Frist (aka Posterboy) thinks that the Senate Democrats are more destructive than Bolton:
"Some on the other side of the aisle are obstructing a highly qualified nominee and I believe by not allowing him to assume this position yet are doing harm to our country," Frist said.
See the photo on the right? He wants you to keep taking your pills like a good American! I say, well done, Senate Democrats and Republicans who take a stand against Bolton! Keep it up!

Lit's go git Osama Bin Laden! Yee haw! Whut?

Porter Goss says he knows where Bin Laden is. But we can't go get him yet! Whut?
"When you go to the question of dealing with sanctuaries in sovereign states, you're dealing with a problem of our sense of international obligation, fair play," Goss said. "We have to find a way to work in a conventional world in unconventional ways."
So one of my friends asked me, since we can't just go pick the evil mastermind up once and for all, "So what sovereign nation do you think Goss is alluding to? Or is it more bullshit?" I think Pakistan still, but who the hell knows for sure, right?

One theory why we can't just get Bin Laden in Pakistan is because the reaction of the Pakistani people to his capture will bring down General Pervez Musharraf's military regime for helping the US capture him. I guess an Islamic revolution in a country with nuclear weapons might be a problem, but don't we already have Iran? And we all know how close G-Dub is to the Perv-man, right? We're making nice with Pakistan, remember? They're our allies in the War on Terr! It's hard work! But we're making progress! Not to mention:

Some nice new shiny F-16s for Pervez
The Bush administration announced March 25 it will sell an unspecified number of F-16s to Pakistan, bringing to an end a two-decade-long dispute with the South Asian nation over the aircraft.
Bush looking the other way when it comes to Pervez's nukes
THERE are suggestions Washington is not pushing Musharraf too hard on this score [having nuclear weapons] as the Bush Administration needs its support for the war on terrorism. But the Pakistani president maintains double standards are at work. He says nuclear proliferation is everywhere - even in the United States.
And these human rights violations
No wonder the Pakistani government can't catch Osama bin Laden. It is too busy harassing, detaining — and now kidnapping — a gang-rape victim for daring to protest and for planning a visit to the United States.
I'm kind of OK with Musharraf going down, aren't you? Maybe it's just me... So why is the Bush administration supporting Musharraf if he's not in a position to get Bin Laden? Does Bush still need Bin Laden "out there" so he can keep us afraid? Mmmm, could be!

Franken Likes Biden?

Listening to the Al Franken Show this morning and Al said he likes Biden. I wonder if Al needs to look into that more...

Uh, yeah, Al? Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and sort of disagree with you there...

Duke Cunningscam - Deeper and Deeper

Talking Points Memo has a nice little chronology (link from Atrios) on Duke Cunningscam. Anyone want to canvass for Francine Busby? I'm in.

TBogg's got a fantastic post on Duke 'n' Dunc. Noodles Jefferson anybody? It's what's for dinner!

Conyers Going to the UK

A local rally that John Conyers was going to attend has been postponed.
John Conyers will not be coming because he has to go to London with regard to the Downing Street memo inquiries going on in the UK.
He's going to London? I wonder if he's going to gather even more evidence so he can start a inquiry of impeachment resolution to actually start the impeachment process.

Biden, That Tool, is Running Again.

Biden's running for president again. Kos has an entry on him. Sirota just tore him a new one:
Remember, this is a Senator who (among other things) led the fight to pass the bankruptcy bill, voted against limiting the interest credit card companies can gouge consumers with, voted against limiting predatory lending, voted against protecting consumers when their identity is stolen, voted for the Iraq War and voted to confirm Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
And what about how he told Alberto Gonzales during Mr. Torture's confirmation,
"And so when I get to ask my questions, I hope you'll be candid about it, because -- not that it's relevant -- I like you. I like you. You are real -- you're the real deal."
My prediction? He won't get the nomination anyway.

Lakoff Weighs in on Dean's Comments

I'm a big fan of Howard Dean. He's the man. But he's got to realize that while his blunt and confrontational comments might make us cheer, he might be making us all vulnerable. Says George"Don't Think of an Elephant" Lakoff in an ABC News article:

Experts on propaganda and political branding declared Republicans the winners of the dust-up over Dean's comments, calling Dean's attacks imprecise, poorly targeted and open to mischaracterization (Dean was forced to clarify several remarks once they were reported).

The result is little surprise to George Lakoff, a linguistics and cognitive science professor at the University of California-Berkeley, who said "the Republican message machine" has been far more effective than Democrats in recent years at framing the opposing party through disciplined message management, repetition of phrases and other techniques. Democrats, he said, can't currently match the GOP's level of organization.

"The reason for this [Dean flap] is that you have Republican media people putting this stuff out — combing through the speeches, taking out a quote and taking them out of context," said Lakoff, a self-styled "progressive" Democrat who was in the audience for Dean's "honest living" remark and feels it got mischaracterized in the media.

That's the key. Dean has to stay on message all the time to prevent these easy attacks from the right where they cherry pick all the great nuggets from his quotes and then frame Dean as the "Loose Cannon" again. We don't need that. Lakoff's on our side. We need to do what he recommends.

Fixed or Bolted On?

The Downing Street Memo just can't be disputed, can it? The Bush administration even tried to refute the famous quote about the "the intelligence and facts ... being fixed around the policy" by saying it meant something else in British English. From Media Matters:
Robin Niblett, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, claimed that "'Fixed around' in British English means 'bolted on' rather than altered to fit the policy." In an exclusive interview with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on the June 15 edition of MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, Rice eagerly agreed with Matthews's suggestion that in Britain the word "fixed" really "means just put things together."
There goes Condosleezza again... Can you say, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack in US?" I knew you could!

Welcome to fickfrust!

In league with other liberal blogs, I will strike out against the radical right-wing, neo-conservative, Christo-fascist movement wherever I see it. Let's expose their hypocrisy, greed, corruption, and pure evil! They must be stopped!

The name fickfrust comes directly from Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's now famous "Nuclear Option" plot to destroy the Senate by riling up a whole slough of Christo-fascist leaders who have no business violating our sacred trust of separation of church and state.
